Aim, structure and tasks of the organization
- The MSA manages the social and family protection for the farming profession as a whole (farmers, salaried workers, white collars of agricultural institutions), which represents 5.600.000 people. The MSA is based on a decentralized structure with, at national level, a Central Fund and at the departmental or multi-departmental level, 78 funds and numerous local offices that are in contact with the insurance contributors within the agricultural community. The MSA has a general vocation: to collect contributions and pay out the benefits for all the fields of social protection (health insurance, family, old age pensions). In 2018, the MSA granted for 26.8 billion euros in social benefits paid to 5.6 million beneficiaries. The MSA is also in charge of the medical protection of the farming sector. Notably, it manages the prevention of risks of accidents at work and the occupational diseases. In addition to its mission of mandatory social protection, the MSA develops a diversified health and social action. It has also set up a large range of services aimed at improving the quality of life of the farming community and, at a larger scale, of the people living in the rural sector.
